Development at 7 months
Many babies can now sit without support, which frees their hands to explore. They pass toys from hand to hand and babble with more consonant sounds.
What you might notice
- Sits without support for a short time
- Passes toys from one hand to the other
- Babbles with sounds like ba, ma and da
- Responds to their name

Feeding
Most babies have solid foods once or twice a day, building up to three meals. Offer a variety of textures, from smooth to mashed and soft lumps. Breast milk or formula is still the main source of nutrition.
Sleep
Most babies take 2 or 3 naps. Teething can disturb sleep for a few nights. Always put your baby down on their back, on a firm, flat surface with no pillows, bumpers or loose blankets. The AAP recommends sharing your room, but not your bed, for at least the first 6 months.
Your checklist this month
- Fit stair gates and cover sockets as your baby becomes mobile.
- Offer soft finger foods under supervision.
- Start brushing first teeth with a smear of fluoride toothpaste.
