Eyebrows and eyelids are formed, and fine lanugo hair covers the baby’s body. The baby can grip with its hands.

Your body at 22 weeks

Mild swelling of the feet and ankles is common, especially at the end of the day. Stretch marks may appear on your tummy, hips or breasts.

Your checklist this week

  • Wear comfortable shoes and rest with your feet raised.
  • Call your doctor straight away if you have sudden swelling of your face, hands or feet, a bad headache or blurred vision: these can be signs of pre-eclampsia.
  • Moisturise your skin if it feels itchy or dry. Tell your doctor about severe itching.

When to call your doctor

  • Bleeding from your vagina
  • Severe pain in your tummy
  • A bad headache, blurred vision or sudden swelling
  • Fluid leaking from your vagina
  • Fever, or pain when you pass urine
  • Later in pregnancy, your baby moving less than usual
