Your baby at 40 weeks

This is your due date week. The baby is ready to be born. Only a small number of babies arrive exactly on their due date, and many first babies come a little later.

Your body at 40 weeks

If labour has not started, your doctor or midwife will talk to you about your options, such as a membrane sweep, and about induction if you go past 41 weeks.

Your checklist this week

  • Keep monitoring your baby’s movements and contact your maternity unit straight away if they change.
  • Ask about a membrane sweep and when induction would be offered.
  • Rest and try to stay comfortable while you wait.
