Your baby is now early term. It is practising breathing, sucking and gripping, ready for life outside the womb.

Your body at 37 weeks

The mucus plug that seals your cervix may come away as a thick, jelly-like discharge, sometimes streaked with blood. Labour may still be days or weeks away.

Your checklist this week

  • Know the signs of labour: regular, strengthening contractions, waters breaking or a show.
  • Have your hospital bag and car seat ready by the door.
  • Keep checking your baby’s movements every day.

When to call your doctor

  • Bleeding from your vagina
  • Severe pain in your tummy
  • A bad headache, blurred vision or sudden swelling
  • Fluid leaking from your vagina
  • Fever, or pain when you pass urine
  • Later in pregnancy, your baby moving less than usual
