The bones are hardening, except for the skull, which stays soft so the baby’s head can pass through the birth canal. Antibodies from your blood are passing to the baby to protect it after birth.

Your body at 33 weeks

Swelling in your feet and ankles and difficulty sleeping are common now.

Your checklist this week

  • Remember the warning signs of pre-eclampsia: severe headache, blurred vision, pain under the ribs or sudden swelling.
  • Sleep on your side with a pillow between your knees.
  • Take short rests during the day.

When to call your doctor

  • Bleeding from your vagina
  • Severe pain in your tummy
  • A bad headache, blurred vision or sudden swelling
  • Fluid leaking from your vagina
  • Fever, or pain when you pass urine
  • Later in pregnancy, your baby moving less than usual
