Your baby at 6 weeks

The heart is now beating and may be seen flickering on an early vaginal ultrasound. Small buds that will become arms and legs appear, and the first features of the face are forming.

Your body at 6 weeks

Nausea and vomiting, often called morning sickness, commonly begin around now and can happen at any time of day. You may feel very tired and emotional.

Your checklist this week

  • Eat small meals often and keep a snack by your bed for the morning.
  • Sip fluids through the day. Contact your doctor if you cannot keep any fluids down for 24 hours.
  • Rest when you can: tiredness is very common in early pregnancy.

When to call your doctor

  • Bleeding from your vagina
  • Severe pain in your tummy
  • A bad headache, blurred vision or sudden swelling
  • Fluid leaking from your vagina
  • Fever, or pain when you pass urine
  • Later in pregnancy, your baby moving less than usual
